2021 Awareness Drive – FEW DAYS on the ROAD …. to Richmond!!

Charlotte NC to Richmond VA, isn’t a long drive but if you factor in the traffic, the 5 hour drive lasted us 7 hours. How do people put up with the traffic? My husband and I thought that our lives are very hectic, and experiencing the traffic in the east coast, I don’t think I can last longer with the added stress of commuting.

We have been in Richmond many times. Our middle child’s family lives in Richmond and since it is few hours away from Maryland, we are deliberate in visiting them. The family we are staying with for couple days are not blood related but the way they have rescued us during our custody battle with our middle child have proved that being family doesn’t necessarily have to be by blood. They have embraced us as their family — all of us!!!

When we finally stopped driving for the day, Matthew and his sensory issues wasn’t done for the day. Although Matthew have seen Noni and Auntie LaNay, he was overly stimulated and he started feeling ill. He wouldn’t get inside the house so we camped inside the mini camper until he got situated. Usually Dad takes the lead on keeping him contain but unfortunately he can’t even do it. Matthew was so restless until he finally vomited it out of his system. Folks, when Matthew gets into this state of mind, Mike and I are literally in another stress level because when he starts gagging, we have to make sure that we get all the medicines aligned so to ensure the ”elephant does not come out of hiding”. By midnight, he was sound asleep. The family slept in the mini camper for the duration of our stay.

While our visit was short, it was productive and eventful, we were able to catch up, and Matthew finally got used to idea of staying with grandma. It was hard to say goodbye but off we go to the next stop…

Maryland, here we come…
