For every campground stop, our camper always get a double take from other campers. What makes the mini camper unique is because of how it embodies our awareness. For three years in a row, we have our own design that we have incorporated to make it more personalized to a COOK’s AS Journey. Since this is the 1st year we will be using the “tear drop camper”, we wanted to continue showcasing our distinctive “AS Matthew design”. Our two previous year’s awareness were completed using our regular sized travel trailer. While the bigger trailer is still being used, this year, for cross country AS Awareness, we are using the mini camper due to cost saving on gas.
We were a bit apprehensive because we only have 4 months of planning before our AS Awareness, and we weren’t sure we can pull all the preparation to get the camper up to our presentation standard. From our previous post, Matthew received the tear drop camper from Make-A-Wish Oklahoma chapter on Valentine’s Day of this year. As we are on the stages of planning and preparation, we have listed the pros and cons of using the mini camper versus the regular sized travel trailer. We have compared the two trailers from the outward appearance, to its functionality, cost saving and most importantly the must have to support Matthew in whatever needs he might have. While the mini camper is cost saver, few things that we couldn’t take chances on are the real-daily-routines that we are always improving on; such as balance, continence and drastic weather that can trigger seizure issues. With the big trailer’s length, size and amenities, Matthew can fully stretched, can use the bathroom day or night, and it has an awning, air conditioner/heater for weather related support. Unlike the mini camper, it only provides an area to sleep in and area to cook.
As Mike have done his researched, found the right fit for the mini camper, he reached out to OK4WD, a company based off in New Jersey, and asked them if they can support us during our Awareness. Without hesitation, OK4WD provided us the Alu Cab Batwing. As you can see from the photo, it is the perfect fit, the perfect format and it didn’t hurt that its color matches our AS Awareness color scheme. Talk about match-made-in-camping-heaven.
After our Long Island road trip, since their location is in our route to Niagara Falls, we were deliberate to see the company and thank them in person. We camped in Stewartsville for the night and met up with OK4WD the following day. While we were there in person to express our gratitude, we reciprocated their support by purchasing the Alu Cab Shower Cube. They installed it right then, right there on the parking lot. This additional set-up is the most convenient item to have to maintain the privacy for easy wardrobe change and while it isn’t the perfect arrangement, we added a portable-carry-on potty seat for when we need a nightly pee breaks for Matthew without walking in the campsite’s public restroom.
Both items completed the must-have glamping set-up for our AS Journey. Thank you OK4WD for your generosity. We can’t thank you enough for the lifetime memories we are making with the support you have provided our family. Thank you too, for helping us spread our AS Awareness by posting a short article of our visit in your company’s social media page. Until we met again …
