2,100 Miles Later

After two whirlwind weeks of traveling through six states and clocking over 2,100 miles, we’ve finally hit a pause button, giving us a moment to do something besides stare at the road ahead. One of our goals on this journey is to connect with as many people as possible, and we’re always intentional about making time for family, even if it’s just a brief visit.

We had the opportunity to stop at our niece’s house in Crestview, FL. We didn’t get in until after dark and we had to leave early the next morning, so it was one of those short and sweet visits where you realize that even a little time is better than no time at all. After a night of catching up, we were back on the road, ready for the next adventure.

Our Fourth of July week took an exciting turn when Merlin’s Magic Wand Charity treated us to a VIP day at LEGOLAND Florida. Let me tell you, it was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted and treated like royalty. Mike and I were in awe when we were assigned a personal guide for the day. Theresa, our Legoland host, was a retired special education teacher and an absolute gem. I turned to Mike and whispered, “Is this what it feels like to have unlimited money?” Having someone dedicated to helping us for the day was an incredible feeling, but if we’re honest, it also felt a bit surreal. We’re not used to living the “VIP” lifestyle, and both of us felt a little out of place in such a privileged moment.

It was a scorcher of a day—hot and humid—which made us worry for Theresa’s comfort. As the heat intensified, so did the challenge of keeping Matthew regulated. Still, we made the most of our time and explored three different areas of LEGOLAND. The water park was an absolute hit, and we even caught a quirky show featuring a red, hopping rabbit. By the end of the day, Theresa felt like family. We shared our story with her, and she shared hers with us. It’s amazing how quickly a connection can form when you open your heart to others.

Driving back to the RV, our hearts were overflowing with gratitude—not just for the experiences, but for the kindness and generosity we’ve encountered along the way. Matthew may not have a voice, but thanks to the support of so many incredible people and businesses, he’s not missing out on the joys of childhood. While we work hard to give him the best life possible, God continues to bless us by surrounding us with the goodness of others.

Yes, we’ve seen some of the worst in people during our travels, but overwhelmingly, we’ve witnessed the best—people who are empathetic, kind, and willing to go the extra mile to make a difference. And for that, we are endlessly grateful.
